With a population of over 7,000 people, The Town of Slave
Lake is a thriving community based on tourism, fishing, forestry
and oil & gas. The town is located in Northern Alberta on
the eastern side of the Lesser Slave Lake and is only a short
2.5 hour drive from Edmonton and 3 hour drive from Grande
Prairie.
Often referred to as the "Jewel of the North", Slave Lake
attracts all types of outdoor enthusiasts to enjoy its diverse
year-round activities available. Lesser Slave Lake Provincial
Park consists of many campgrounds, trails and wildlife. The
lake itself is the second largest in Alberta, and boasts the
nicest stretches of white sand beaches in our province. Enjoy
activities such as fishing, boating, kayaking, swimming or
relaxing on the beach while visiting Slave Lake. Slave Lake
also holds many events including the Song Bird Festival, the
Alberta Open Sandsculpture & Volleyball Tournament and many
annual angler fishing tournaments. Also for those bird-watching
enthusiasts, be sure to visit the park's two Bird Observatories.
Once here, Slave Lake also has its own Tourist Centre to help
you further in finding the perfect outdoor adventure fit for
you. You can be sure that your time in Slave Lake will leave
